Integrations — AI Provider Keys

HousingSurvey Pro's AI features run on your own AI provider account and key. There is no shared platform key — you're in control of the provider, the cost, and the data-processing terms. Tiered — Basics to switch it on, Deep dive for what AI does, Technical for administrators.

Basics — turning AI on

  1. Open Settings → AI (org admin).
  2. Choose your provider (e.g. Anthropic, OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Google) and paste your own API key.
  3. Save. AI-assisted features light up across the app and dashboard.

With no key configured, AI features are simply off — the platform "fails closed". Nothing AI-related happens without your explicit key.

Deep dive — what AI does (and doesn't)

AI in HousingSurvey Pro is advisory and drafts-only:

  • AI Polish — tidies a surveyor's dictated or typed notes into clear report wording.
  • Photo analysis — describes what's visible in a defect photo to assist the surveyor.
  • Repair-code suggestions — from a defect photo, suggests codes from your own SOR catalogue (the model never sees or invents rates).
  • Summaries — drafts an executive summary the surveyor reviews.

What AI never does:

  • It never enters evidence on its own — a human always reviews and commits.
  • It never computes the compliance assessments — HHSRS, condensation and IAQ are calculated by deterministic engines, not a model.

Technical — for administrators

  • Bring-your-own-key: the platform uses your provider account, so AI processing occurs under your agreement with that provider. Rotate or revoke the key anytime in Settings → AI.
  • Fail-closed: no key ⇒ AI off. There is no silent fallback to a platform key (there isn't one).
  • Providers: Anthropic, OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Google, or a compatible BYO endpoint. Vision (photo) features require a vision-capable model.
  • Data: only the specific text/image for a requested action is sent to your provider; assessment maths and evidence sealing happen in-platform.
  • Cost control: because it's your key, usage and spend are visible in your provider's dashboard and governed by your own limits.

Rollout note: the set of AI-assisted surfaces continues to grow; the bring-your-own-key, advisory-only, fail-closed model is fixed and applies to all of them.
