If you are the contractor organisation

Who can do thisPermission: contractors ≥ 3

If a landlord using the platform has added you as a contractor, you get here one of two ways: you set up your own organisation and redeem an invite code, or the landlord issued you a sign-in directly. This article covers both, and the one-time steps each involves.

What it is

If you already run (or are willing to set up) your own organisation, you redeem the landlord’s invite code from inside it — your organisation stays entirely your own, ring-fenced from theirs. If instead the landlord generated a sign-in for you directly, you’re signing in to a shell organisation they created — unclaimed until you add and verify your own email address, at which point it becomes genuinely and permanently yours; the landlord can no longer revoke or regenerate its credentials once that happens.

How to do it

  1. If you have your own organisation: sign in, open Settings → API & webhooks, find Join a landlord, enter the code exactly as given (HSP-XXXXXXXX), and select Redeem code.
  2. If the landlord issued you a sign-in: sign in with the email and password they gave you. You’ll be asked to Choose your own password before you can do anything else — set one at least 12 characters long and confirm it.
  3. To make the account genuinely yours, open Settings → My account and add and verify your own real email address, replacing any placeholder one the landlord’s system generated.
  4. Once verified, sign out and back in — the account claims itself automatically at that point.
  5. From here on, work the landlord sends you exactly as you would any other job: it appears in your Jobs list, ready to assign to your own surveyors.

How it integrates

Claiming a landlord-issued shell is a one-way step: once your verified real email is on the account, the landlord who created it loses the ability to revoke or regenerate its credentials — an independent business can’t be locked out of its own account by the landlord who set it up. If more than one landlord adds the same contractor independently, each relationship is tracked separately and all of them flip to reflect the claim once it happens. Redeeming an invite code, by contrast, never creates or changes account ownership at all — it only binds an already-independent organisation to a landlord’s grant.

Common problems

  • My password change is refused with “this sign-in has gone stale.” Sign out and back in with the credentials you were originally given, then try the password change again.
  • I added my real email but the account still shows as landlord-issued. It only claims itself once that email is verified — check for a verification email (including spam) and confirm it before signing out and back in.
  • The invite code is rejected. Codes are single-use and case-sensitive — confirm it hasn’t already been redeemed, and that you’re redeeming it from a genuine contractor-kind organisation, not a landlord one.
