Creating your organisation
Every organisation on the platform starts the same way: a signed-in person with no organisation yet either founds one or waits for an existing admin to invite them. This article covers founding one.
What it is
When you sign in with no organisation membership, the portal offers a Set up your organisation form: a name, and a choice between Housing association / landlord and Contractor. Choosing landlord unlocks the Properties tab and the property-scoped features (asbestos register, tenancies); choosing contractor is for a business that expects to receive work from landlords using the platform, and never sees the Properties or Contractors tabs itself. Whichever you choose, you become that organisation’s org-admin the instant it’s created.
Before you start
You need a real, signed-in account — email/password, Google, Apple or SSO. An anonymous demo session cannot create an organisation.
How to do it
- On the Set up your organisation screen, enter your Organisation name.
- Choose Housing association / landlord or Contractor.
- Select Create organisation.
- You land straight in the portal as org-admin, and the setup wizard opens automatically — see The setup wizard, step by step.
- Already meant to join an existing organisation instead? Ask its administrator to add your email under Members, then select Refresh access on this same screen once they have.
How it integrates
Creating an organisation this way puts it on the Solo plan with one licensed surveyor seat by default — see Your plan and what it includes for what that includes and how to change it. You can found up to five organisations this way on one account; beyond that, contact support. A person can belong to more than one organisation at once and switch between them from the sidebar. Common problems
- I can’t create a sixth organisation. Self-service founding is capped at five organisations per account for the same person — contact support to raise it.
- I chose the wrong kind (landlord/contractor) and want to switch. This isn’t a self-service toggle — contact support.
- I was expecting to join a colleague’s existing organisation but got the “set up your organisation” screen instead. You haven’t been added as a member yet — ask an admin there to add your email, then select Refresh access, rather than creating a brand-new organisation of your own.
