App configuration: Hazards
The Hazards tab is one expandable table, one row per hazard type, for choosing which hazards your organisation surveys and customising each one’s capture and report sections.
What it is
Every shippable hazard type gets one row with an Enabled toggle and an expandable detail view for its own capture-section, report-section and narrative-field overrides. Damp & mould stays checked and can’t be disabled — it’s the organisation’s only always-live statutory obligation, so there’s nothing to hand a job off to if it were switched off. Every other hazard type ships enabled by default, so this table narrows your set rather than requiring you to opt into anything. Below the table, a separate control sets how often the platform recommends reviewing each asbestos register entry.
How to do it
- Open Settings → App configuration → Hazards.
- Toggle Enabled to remove a hazard type from your organisation entirely, or expand a row to customise which capture and report sections it includes.
- Within an expanded row, sections already hidden org-wide (on the Data collection tab) show as unavailable rather than a live toggle — remove the org-wide restriction there first if you need the section back for this one hazard.
- Set the Asbestos register review interval in months — HSE’s own guidance figure of 12 is the default until you change it.
- Click Save changes on the App configuration card.
How it integrates
A hazard’s status is shown honestly per type: damp & mould is a live Awaab’s Law Phase 1 obligation today; Phase 2/3 hazard types show their own pending commencement date rather than an in-force claim; asbestos is governed by a separate, already-commenced statute (the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012) and carries no Awaab’s Law framing at all. Two sections can never be excluded for any hazard type at any scope: Survey Details (property identity) and Final Sign-Off (the step finalisation itself depends on), plus each hazard’s own defining section — asbestos can’t drop its Asbestos Register step, and radon can’t drop its Radon Test step, for example. The asbestos review interval is org policy only: regulation 4 of CAR 2012 requires review at “regular intervals” but sets no fixed number, so this is never presented as a legal deadline, and it stays editable per item on the register itself regardless of the org-wide default.
Common problems
- I can’t turn off damp & mould. It’s the platform’s only hazard type that can never be disabled — every organisation carries a live Awaab’s Law Phase 1 obligation for it.
- A section I want to enable for one hazard is greyed out. It’s hidden at the org-wide floor on the Data collection tab — a per-hazard override can only narrow further, never restore it.
- I disabled a hazard type — what happens to jobs already raised under it? Existing surveys and their sealed records are unaffected; disabling only stops new jobs being raised under that hazard type.
