Electrical hazards

Electrical hazards covers unsafe electrical installations and equipment — shock, burn and injury risk from defective wiring, deteriorated components or inadequate maintenance. It is a Phase 2 Awaab’s Law hazard: capturable in full today, with its statutory clock not yet commenced.

What it is

The GOV.UK guidance ties this hazard directly to EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) codes: an accessible live conductor (C1) or a potentially dangerous condition (C2) is treated as an emergency indicator, while multiple C3 (“improvement recommended”) codes combined with vulnerable occupants point to significant. The Electrical Safety section records these codes as transcribed facts — it never derives, assigns or revises a code itself; that judgement belongs to the electrician who issued the certificate.

How to do it

  1. On the Electrical Safety card, record whether an EICR is present, its date and expiry.
  2. Log each observation on the certificate — code, description and location — in the repeatable EICR observations list, transcribing exactly what the certificate states.
  3. Record consumer unit type, RCD protection presence, and whether exposed live parts or a damaged socket/accessory were observed.
  4. Record whether the installation is accessible to children, and your own overall risk judgement.
  5. Complete Hazard Triage — an accessible live conductor or C1/C2 code is one of GOV.UK’s own named emergency indicators; cite it if it applies.

How it integrates

Electrical hazards has its own AI preset (housing-electrical): image analysis restates only what’s visible — a consumer unit or board, exposed live parts, a damaged socket or cable, heat damage or scorching, an accessory near water or within child reach, or that a certificate was photographed — never an EICR code, which is always transcribed from the certificate itself, never assigned by AI or by this platform. The executive-summary draft restates a recorded code factually. The finished record uses the “Electrical Safety Assessment Report” template.

Common problems

  • I don’t have an EICR to hand. Record what you can observe directly (exposed parts, damaged sockets, consumer unit condition) and your own risk judgement — the EICR fields can be added once the certificate is available.
  • An observation code seems wrong. The platform only ever transcribes what’s on the certificate — correct it against the certificate itself, not in this record.
  • There’s no due date on this job. Expected while Phase 2 remains unconfirmed, except for an emergency-severity case.
