Radon

Radon records a single detector deployment per property, then — weeks or months later, once your organisation’s own measurement provider reports back — the lab result. It carries no live Awaab’s Law clock today, and the platform never measures radon itself.

What it is

Radon’s own protocol is a long-run passive-detector average, not a point-in-time reading — which is why this hazard type skips weather and psychrometrics that a same-visit reading exercise would otherwise use. The Radon Test step captures the deployment first, then the same step is revisited later, once results arrive, by revising the finalised survey — the same pattern the asbestos hazard type uses for a pending lab sample.

Your organisation uses its own UKHSA-validated measurement provider. There is no platform-level kit partnership, inventory or lab relationship of any kind — this hazard type only ever records what you deployed and what your provider reported.

Before you start

Arrange detector deployment through your organisation’s own UKHSA-validated measurement provider before starting this record — the platform has no kit or lab of its own to supply one.

How to do it

  1. Record the detector/kit reference, who deployed it, and the deployed location — main bedroom, main living room, or another named location.
  2. Record the measurement provider or lab name, and the suggested retrieval-due date.
  3. Finalise the survey with the test recorded as deployed and the result pending.
  4. Once your provider reports back, reopen the finalised record and revise it: record the lab/job reference, the bedroom and living-room Bq/m³ figures, the annual average, and add the lab certificate as a photo.

How it integrates

Radon has its own AI preset (housing-radon): image analysis restates only the detector’s own visible condition and placement — undamaged, a reference not legible, a placement concern, damaged or disturbed, or simply not visible in the photograph — never a Bq/m³ figure or a band, which is always a lab result you enter, never something AI infers from a photo. The report frames UKHSA’s Target Level (100 Bq/m³) and Action Level (200 Bq/m³) strictly as government-endorsed guidance, never a legal limit or a deadline, and only ever compares the annual average figure against them — a single room’s individual reading is never treated as the annual average. The platform does not measure radon. It records deployment and, later, a lab-reported result; the actual measurement is always performed by an accredited provider your organisation chooses, entirely independent of this platform.

Common problems

  • The result hasn’t come back yet. Finalise the survey with the deployment recorded and the result marked pending, then revise the record once your provider reports back — see The evidence register for how a sealed record can still be honestly corrected.
  • I only have one room’s reading, not the annual average. Record it, but don’t treat it as comparable to the Target/Action Levels — only the annual average figure is meant for that comparison.
  • There’s no due date on this job. Expected — radon has no confirmed Awaab’s Law phase today.
