Scoped overrides: per member, per contractor, per job

Who can do thisPermission: settings ≥ 2

Scoped app configuration lets you set a narrower App configuration override for one person, one contractor organisation, or one work order — without touching what everyone else sees.

What it is

This panel sits at the bottom of Settings → App configuration, below the five tabs. It offers three scope types — People, Contractors, Work orders — each showing a searchable list of eligible targets on the left and, once you pick one, its inherited and overridden settings on the right. A target already carrying an override shows a Configured badge in the list.

How to do it

  1. Open Settings → App configuration and scroll down to Scoped app configuration.
  2. Choose a scope type, then pick a person, contractor organisation, or work order from the list.
  3. Set date format, temperature unit, currency, or the (legacy) Essential Costs module visibility — leave any field on its blank “Inherit” option to fall through to the broader setting.
  4. Under Additional wizard sections to hide and Additional sealed-overview sections to hide, check any further sections to hide for this scope specifically — a section already greyed out is hidden by a broader scope and can’t be restored here.
  5. Expand Per-hazard-type configuration to set hazard-specific overrides for this one scope, the same expandable table as the Hazards tab.
  6. Click Save override, or Reset to inherited to remove every override for this target and fall back to the broader configuration entirely.

How it integrates

Overrides resolve in ascending precedence: organisation, then a contractor organisation’s own override, then a specific person’s, then a specific work order’s — the narrowest scope always wins for the fields it actually sets, and anything it leaves blank falls through to the next broadest layer that does set it. A contractor-performed work order inherits that contractor tenant’s own app configuration rather than your organisation’s — your organisation’s hidden sections and hazard profiles are never silently copied across a tenant boundary; only your own contractor-scope or work-order-scope overrides apply on top. Section-hiding is union-only in every direction: a narrower scope can add to what’s hidden, never take away what a broader scope already hid.

Common problems

  • My override for a work order isn’t showing any effect. Check whether the work order is contractor-performed — it inherits that contractor’s own configuration (plus any contractor/person override you set), not your organisation’s base configuration.
  • A checkbox is greyed out and I can’t toggle it. It’s already hidden by a broader scope — remove the restriction there if you genuinely need it back for everyone, since a narrower scope can never restore it.
  • I want this person to go back to using the organisation defaults entirely. Select them, then click Reset to inherited — this removes every override in one action rather than clearing fields one at a time.
