Report details and presets
A job carries a report title and a report type, each pickable from a preset list or replaced with your own free text — useful reference fields, but not the thing that actually decides the printed report’s heading.
What it is
Report title and Report type are each a dropdown of presets plus a Custom… option that swaps to a plain text box (with a Presets button to switch back). The preset lists include every hazard type’s own report name and label, plus a handful of generic options such as “Disrepair Investigation Report” and “Stock Condition Survey Report”. Choosing a hazard type on the job auto-fills both fields to match that hazard’s own defaults — but only while the current value is still a preset or blank; once you’ve hand-edited either field, changing the hazard type afterwards leaves your wording alone.
How to do it
- On New survey, expand Add report details.
- Pick a Report title and Report type from the preset list, or choose Custom… to type your own.
- Leave both on their hazard-matched default if you’re not sure — it’s chosen to match what the report will actually say.
How it integrates
The report title and type you set here are reference fields on the job record — they’re what you see when scanning a list of jobs, and what a manager might quote to distinguish two similar-looking cases. They are not read by the report PDF itself: the printed report’s own heading is always derived directly from the job’s hazard type in the registry, not from these fields, so editing “Report title” to something custom changes what you see on the job but not the printed report’s header.
Neither field has a surveyor-edit toggle in the capture app’s Capture policy settings — unlike address, scope, dates and several other case fields, they aren’t something a surveyor can be granted permission to change on site. See Capture policy for the fields that are.
Common problems
- I changed the report title but the PDF still shows the hazard’s standard title. That’s expected — the printed heading always follows the hazard type, not this field.
- The preset list doesn’t include the wording I want. Choose Custom… and type it directly; nothing forces you to stay on a preset.
- My custom title reverted when I changed the hazard type. It shouldn’t — the auto-fill only overwrites a value that’s still a preset or blank. If you edited the text first, changing the hazard type afterwards leaves it as you left it.
