Survey details and resident intake in the app

The wizard’s first step brings together the property details the office already knows and the resident information they’ve captured — most of it read-only by default, because it was already set before you arrived.

What it is

Survey Details shows the property’s address, and where set, the reference number, report title and dates — fields pushed from the office when the job was raised. Resident shows any resident-intake information already on file: reason for inspection, household details, contact preferences and preferred language. Whether you can edit any of these on-device, rather than only view them, is controlled centrally by your organisation, not by you.

Before you start

Editing a normally read-only field here needs your organisation to have granted surveyor edit access to that specific field in Capture policy — most organisations start with these locked.

How to do it

  1. Open the job — Survey Details is the first card in the wizard.
  2. Review the address and any report details already set; edit them only if the field shows as editable and something is genuinely wrong.
  3. Review Resident for context set by the office — reason for inspection, any household or access notes, and preferred language.
  4. Add or correct resident details here if your organisation allows editing them from the field, or flag a correction to the office via Log a note for the office if it doesn’t.

How it integrates

These fields are the same ones a manager set (or left blank) in Raising a survey and Resident intake — nothing here is app-only data; it all reads from and, where editable, writes back to the same job record the portal shows. A field left read-only in the field app isn’t broken — it’s a deliberate control so the version of the truth the office set doesn’t drift by accident once a job is out with a surveyor.

Common problems

  • The address is wrong and I can’t fix it. Address is one of the fields Capture policy locks by default — flag it to the office rather than trying to edit around it; they can correct the property record directly.
  • A resident detail I need to add has no input field. Some resident-intake fields may not be surfaced for editing on-device even where the section is visible — add it as a case note instead, or ask the office to update it.
  • The report title/reference looks out of date. These are set by the office when the job was raised or later from the drawer; correcting them in the field only works if that field has been unlocked for surveyors.
